So, it’s been a few months since a virus caused the whole world to come to a complete stop. They are slowly allowing beaches and parks to open back up, but we are all warned to be smart about our travels everywhere. Meanwhile, our home is currently being built and should be done within the next few months, with that being said I wanted to start back up with my decor shopping for the house…just one problem…MONEY! We have been on lockdown for over a month now, so non-essential shopping has been put on the back burner.

I know that once we move in, we can slowly buy decorations that we want but quarantine life has caused the wheels in my head to spin so why not DIY some home decor myself?! I have quite a bit of space to fill up and I want it to have some unique pieces that can’t always be store-bought.

I decided to use things that I already had around the house and if I can’t make it right now, I still thought that I would share some of the DIY plans that I have.

One of my favorite home decor styles is bohemian, so best believe that I will have a boho-chic decor piece in pretty much each room. LOL I have seen wall art such as these all over Pinterest, but I wanted to make mine different from the rest.

1. To Make the DIY Boho Chic Wall Art

  • I took a skein of jumbo yarn and garter knit for 13 inches then placed it on a 10in wooden dowel. For me, that was the easy part.

  • I then took a bunch of leftover yarn that I had and created a macrame style knots over the knitted piece.

I love it! It was time-consuming but I think it turned out well, what do you think?

The other one was even easier, I tied 4 strands of twine to an embroidery hoop and cut a bunch of twine and yard to add to the bottom as fringes.

So I had leftover shelves and MDF boards from past projects and thought that I would have some fun and make signs for the guest bathroom and laundry area. “Alexa, fold my laundry” and a funny bathroom review sign. It’s a quick and simple project.

2. To Make the DIY Bathroom Sign

Here’s what you'll need:

  • a blank board of some kind

  • twine rope

  • paper

  • mod podge

  • clothespins

You can free-hand the words on the sign or if you want yours to look like mine, you can download them for free by filling out the form below!

For the bathroom review sign, it’s as simple as gluing or free-writing the sign onto your board.

For the laundry sign, after you have downloaded your copy, you can tear the edges of the paper and apply the mod podge glue over the signs to seal the paper. I rubbed white and black paint to give it a distressed look. Cut the twine to the desired length, tie it around the board and add your clothespins.

These are just simple home decor DIYs that you can do with unused stuff lying around your house.

I’m sure once we have all figured out what our new normal will look like, there will be more projects to come! See you in the next post!
